B) HFS-induced LTP was inhibited by blocking NMDA receptors. In 5 slices from 129S5 mice, HFS was carried out in the presence of 50 μM D,L-AP5, a competitive NMDA receptor antagonist. D,L-AP5-treated slices demonstrated a distinctive lack of post-tetanic potentiation and significant reduction of LTP compared to untreated slices (105 ± 7% vs. 191 ± 39 %; t(15) = -4.79; P < 0.001).
