Effect of glutamate on cell viability. Neuronal cells were maintained for 7 days in conditions similar to those described under Figure 1. Cells were treated with various concentrations of glutamate for 20 mins. Cell viability was determined 24 hrs later. Untreated control consisted of cells exposed to Lockes buffer only. Each treatment was repeated 8 times. Error bars represent SEM.
