Effects of MgT and MgSO4 on neurons after normoxia (left) or hypoxia (right) in the presence or absence of MgT or MgSO4. MgT: magnesium l-threonate. The cells were treated with PBS (control), MgSO4 (1 or 10 mM) or MgT (1 or 10 mM) for 1 h. After the culture media were exchanged, the cells were incubated for 2 h in a CO2 incubator or a hypoxic chamber. The cellular experiments were repeated three times (each individual experiment contained 6 technical replicated, totaling 180 wells). Data are shown as mean ± SEM. †p < 0.05 compared to the PBS group, ‡p < 0.05 compared to the PBS + HYP group. PBS: phosphate-buffered saline; MgT, magnesium l-threonate; HYP, hypoxia
