  1. Animal experimental treatment groups. Female Fischer 344 rats were divided among 3 groups. Using the indicated tracer, Fluorogold (FG) PS neurons were labeled via bilateral injections of FG into the lumbosacral enlargement prior to axotomy. The animals were allowed to recover for 1 week, allowing the FG adequate time to retrogradely label PS neurons. Following 1-week tracer transport time, animal is groups 2 and 3 then received a complete spinal transection (TXN) at the indicated spinal level, and were then allowed to recover for 3-days, at which point the spinal tissue was harvested for laser capture microdissection and gene expression analysis
  2. *Three animals in the T2 SCI group and 1 in the uninjured control group were euthanized prior to the planned date due to health complications
