MITF mutation caused a significant decrease of the number of spiral ganglion cells (SGCs) after P30. The SGCs were counted in the MITF+/+ and MITF−/− cochleae at P1, P30 and P60. Most SGCs of MITF−/− cochleae were lost since P30. The data were presented as the mean ± SD (n = 6). All SGCs were counted from the basal turn of cochleae. Wild type, WT; mutant type, MT.
