Lithium protected against rotenone-induced cytotoxicity in SH-SY5Y cells. Cell viability was measured by MTT assay after treatment of SH-SY5Y cells with lithium for 24 h at indicated concentrations with or without rotenone exposure. a Lithium exposure (0–15 mM) had no negative influence on the cell survival of SH-SY5Y cells under normal culture condition. b Lithium dose-dependently protected SH-SY5Y cells from rotenone-induced cytotoxicity. *P < 0.05 as compared with control (a) or LiCl 0 + Rot-treated cells (b) (n = 6 in each group)
