Lithium promotes apoptotic signaling mediated by Fas in differentiated immortalized hippocampal neurons. Differentiated immortalized hippocampal neurons were pretreated with 20 mM lithium for 30 min as indicated, followed by treatment with an agonistic anti-Fas antibody (10 μg/ml). Immunoblots were used to measure the time-dependent (A) activation of caspase-3, and (B) PARP cleavage. Ratios of the responses in the presence and absence of lithium are shown under the immunoblots (Mean ± SEM; n = 3–5).
