  1. Time spent in W, SWS and PS is reported in minutes, scored per 10 sec epochs over the last 150 minutes of the experiment. The number (mean ± SEM) of Fos+, MCH+, Hypocretin+ and double-labeled neurons (Hypocretin+/Fos+ or MCH+/Fos+) was calculated in the posterior hypothalamus for control (PSC, n = 4), PS deprived (PSD, n = 4) and PS recovery (PSC, n = 4) rats. Cells were counted on 4 and 6 hemi-sections per animal for Hypocretin/Fos and MCH/Fos labelings respectively. Significance values indicated for individual points are: p < 0.05 and ¶¶¶ p < 0.001 between PSD and PSC, * p < 0.05 and *** p < 0.001 between PSR and PSC, ## p < 0.01 and ### p < 0.001 between PSR and PSD conditions.
