(B) Sham-lesioned mice allowed access to running wheels exhibit greater numbers of newly generated neurones (* p < 0.05, one-tailed) despite discontinuation of running 4 weeks prior to sacrifice. Although not as prominent, the effect of running on neurogenesis was also significant in cholinergic lesioned mice (§p < 0.05, one-tailed). Data are mean ± sem.
